Summer Nights Ruana Pattern

Are you looking to make the perfect summer piece that transitions beautifully into fall? Then you are going to love this pattern! The Summer Nights Ruana is a simple & elegant ruana pattern that is made for beach and everyday wear. Offering the perfect light layer that will carry you not only through the summer months, but also into the fall months as the weather turns cooler.
Inspiration
I’ve had the idea for a pattern like this in my head for what seems like forever. I finally had a chance to bring it to life in the car on the road to and from Alabama (from Michigan!) for my cousin’s wedding. Cue 26+ hours in the car and voila! The Summer Nights Ruana just flowed off my hook.
When I had this design idea in my head, I wanted something that was light, with some open airy sections, paired with other more closed sections so that it could function in multiple ways. I was thinking about summer days at the beach that turn into summer nights around a fire and a piece that can take you from one to the other seamlessly.
I think this ruana pattern does just that! The mix of open and closed sections gives some coverage if you want to wear it over a swim suit, but it’s not going feel even a little bit heavy on you if you wanted to wear it as a light layer over your clothes.

Coming in 4 Sizes, XS/Small, Medium/Large, XL/2X, 3X/4X, its size inclusive and allows you to size up if you’re looking for a more oversized fit. For size reference, model is wearing a Med/Large and is typically a Small/Medium.

Ruana Pattern Details
The Summer Nights Ruana pattern is sure to become a staple in your wardrobe! It is worked in 1 panel and the only seaming you need to do are up the sides to create the arm holes. The pattern also comes with instructions for making a tie belt if you want to add a little shape to your ruana when you’re wearing it around.
Difficulty Level
As far as crochet garment patterns, you can get much easier than this ruana pattern! The pattern only uses basic stitches and gives helpful reminders in the areas that could be tricky. In addition, it outlines exactly how to seam to it up so you end with a beautiful finished piece.
Gauge
Because this pattern is for a garment, gauge is going to be the key to making sure your ruana comes out to the right dimensions. Blocking your finished piece will also help with this if you can’t get gauge exactly right. Gauge is given in the pattern and I cannot recommend enough making sure to make a gauge swatch (and blocking it) before you get started.

Pattern Testing
One thing I make sure to do before each pattern release is to have the pattern tested in every size. This ensures that the pattern is sized correctly for each and every size.
I cannot say enough about the gals that tested this pattern for me! They not only made beautiful ruanas, but they also gave me beautiful pictures and fabulous notes on the pattern! Each one chose a unique yarn to use and put their own spin on styling their ruanas. I couldn’t be more thrilled with this groups of testers!
